A Serene Oasis in the Desert: Six Senses Shaharut Israel Hotel, 5 Stars (Review)
Six Senses Shaharut’s location is undoubtedly one of its most distinguishing features. Set high upon the Arava Valley against the backdrop of the Negev Desert and brushing shoulders with the Jordanian border, this oasis of luxury harmoniously coexists with the rugged beauty of its surroundings. The resort’s commitment to preserving the desert ecosystem and promoting sustainability is commendable, and adds to the allure as one of the best boutique hotels in Israel.

The Negev Desert is a geological wonder, where dramatic canyons, rolling sand dunes, and ancient rock formations create a visual spectacle. The resort’s location immerses guests in this natural wonderland, allowing them to connect with the land’s raw and primal beauty on an intimate level.

Rooms: Desert Elegance Meets Eco-Luxury
Upon arriving at Six Senses Shaharut, the first impression is its desert-bohemian charm that is evident throughout its design. The resort is composed of 58 standalone villas, each meticulously designed to seamlessly blend with the surroundings while offering views of the golden desert landscape, Arava Valley, and Edom Mountains. The design philosophy revolves around sustainability and eco-consciousness, demonstrated in the use of natural materials, earthy tones, and minimalist decor.
The rooms, suites, and villa categories each offer a distinct experience. The Six Senses Suite in which I stayed is designed to embrace the principles of minimalism, feature earthy colors, raw stone walls, and floor-to-ceiling windows that provide an uninterrupted view of the desert landscape. Unique amenities include desert walking sticks, sun hats, yoga mat, and Marshall speakers.

The Pool Suites and Villas, on the other hand, blend seamlessly with the sandy terrain, offering additional bedroom(s) private pools, and additional in-room amenities. For those seeking a more indulgent experience, the Private Reserve is a testament to ultimate luxury. This 3 bedroom villa features a private infinity pool, outdoor dining areas including a partial outdoor kitchen, and a spa treatment room, and steam room. The interior spaces are a study in understated elegance, with plush furnishings, custom-made organic cotton linens, and handwoven rugs. The marriage of modernity and eco-consciousness in these suites is nothing short of exceptional.

Amenities: Wellness, Sustainability, and Beyond
Among the 5 star hotels in Israel, Six Senses Shaharut elevates the concept of amenities to a whole new level. The resort’s commitment to sustainability is demonstrated in every aspect of its operations, from energy-efficient lighting to the use of locally sourced materials. The jewel in the crown of the amenities is the incredible spa and opulent indoor swimming pool, reminiscent of the award-winning La Mamounia Spa pool in Marrakech, Morocco.

The spa at Six Senses Shaharut is a serene sanctuary where ancient wisdom meets contemporary wellness. Here, guests can indulge in an array of treatments inspired by Bedouin traditions and modern techniques. The treatments take place in individual desert-view spa rooms, ensuring that you are one with nature while experiencing rejuvenation and relaxation.

Beyond the spa, the beautifully designed outdoor swimming pool is an inviting destination to lounge away as it overlooks a veranda that seems to merge with the desert horizon.
The resort offers a multitude of activities designed to engage and enlighten guests. The fitness center is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, and yoga and meditation pavilions offer soul-soothing experiences against the backdrop of the Negev’s otherworldly beauty.

For those with a sense of wonder, the resort’s guided stargazing sessions are a must. The Negev Desert’s low light pollution makes it an ideal spot, and the resort’s expert astronomers provide a captivating glimpse into the cosmos. It’s an experience that resonates with the deeper, more profound connection Six Senses Shaharut aims to establish with its guests.

Dining: Culinary Excellence Amidst the Desert
A stay at Six Senses Shaharut is incomplete without savoring the culinary creations that await within its borders. The resort offers two main dining venues showcasing a unique aspect of Israeli and Middle Eastern cuisine. The hotel itself is not kosher certified, but all ingredients used in the kitchen are kosher and non-kosher food items such as shellfish and pork are not offered.

The signature restaurant, Midian, is an indoor and open-air dining experience like no other. Under the vast desert sky, guests can relish a delectable menu crafted from locally sourced ingredients and regional delicacies.

Activities: Immersive Desert Adventures
Beyond the comforts and indulgences of the resort, Six Senses Shaharut offers a variety of activities designed to connect guests with the Negev Desert and beyond. One of the most captivating experiences is the sunrise desert hike, led by experienced guides who unveil the desert’s secrets as the first rays of dawn paint the landscape with a golden hue.

For those with a penchant for adventure, the desert quad biking expedition offers thrilling escapades. These excursions provide an opportunity to explore the desert’s rugged terrain and encounter the fascinating Bedouin culture that has thrived in this arid land for centuries.
The resort also arranges visits to nearby attractions such as the breathtaking Timna Park, home to surreal rock formations and the world’s oldest copper mines; the ancient city of Petra in Jordan, accessible via a day trip; and the Dead Sea and Masada — two of Israel’s top points of interest. These excursions add a layer of historical and cultural richness to the desert experience.
